Receiving Blanket Project ![]() The Senior Homemaker’s Group makes receiving Blankets for every newborn at the local hospital, Hazard Appalachian Regional Hospital. Veteran Lap Quilt Project ![]() Senior participants make lap quilts for each East Kentucky Veteran Center resident and presents it to them during the month of their birthday. ![]() Senior participants made a 16’x20’ quilt which hangs in the ARH Cancer Center. Each quilt block has the name of someone who passed away from cancer or someone who is a cancer survivor. The quilt was presented at the ARH Cancer Center dedication in September 2007. Turban Project
![]() The senior homemaker’s group makes turbans for each female cancer patient treated by ARH Cancer Center. Christmas Fruit Bag Day ![]() Thanks to local grocery stores, during the Christmas season, we are able to distribute over 500 bags containing handmade crafts by the senior center participants, fruit and brochures and newsletters about the senior center. Heart Pillow Project
Senior Center volunteers who like to sew and quilt make heart pillows for individuals who received open heart surgery at the ARH Heart Center . These pillows help protect them from injury after surgery. Relay For Life Cancer Walk Senior Center participants gather each year to raise money for the American Cancer Society. In 2007, the senior center team along with LKLP Community Action Council, raised over $1,500 for this important effort. The team won second place for most funds raised in the family/church/civic group category. |
